you can Chop cabbage without greating as well 

you can use any type of Oil but Coconut Oil gives the Real Srilankan Elavalu Rotti Smell and the Aura.

when mashing the potatoes make sure its not creamy.

You can Add Chili Powder if you want the Curry to be Spicy 

you can dip the balls in the oil instead of applying on top of each balls.
